Things I learned today

"To be free, happy, and live from our essence, we need to explore our conditioned responses, known as "samsara," which "keep us asleep at the switch of our own lives." Samsara is about the suffering inherent in living a shallow existence of habituated patterns without reflection, contemplation, or understanding. It is the suffering of not being fully alive and awake. It's as if our life is happening, but we're not there.

It is often the nature of life to have conflicting pulls between inertia and taking action, between awareness and unconsciousness. We want to watch TV all day and have a clean house. We want to eat Twinkies but still be thin. We want to have a close relationship but not reveal our fears or take time for each other. This calls for us to exert ourselves and push through inertia. As always on the path, staying awake takes a daily commitment to tune in to ourselves, reach deeper, and speak from our heart."
